When to go to India?

India is a diverse country; not only in its geography, its climate is extremely changeable, and it plays a key factor in deciding when to visit India. The subcontinent is so vast, 2000 miles from north to south and west o east, nearly as far. You can decide where and when will go to India, but determined primarily by the weather.

Generally, India’s climate is defined by three seasons: the hot, wet or monsoon, and the cool, each varies both in degree and duration, and according with the area and altitude. From April through June, the weather is dry and hot, with temperatures averaging 38ēC during the day, especially in the north deserts of Rajasthan, and also Delhi, Agra and the Taj Mahal are nudging above 40ēC. July through September, monsoons are frequent and sometimes heavy. And from October to March tend to be the most pleasant almost all country. The Himalayas experience a very different kind of weather, with snowfall from December through February.

Each area has its best time and also its not recommendable time. For example, the best time to visit the north area such as Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra, Amritsar and Varnasi is during October to March where the weather is some cool, and is not recommendable go there during monsoon days that is between July and September, but during this season is the best time for visit to the Himalayan Mountains, in the area of the Kashmir and Ladakh.

In the south area that include Cochin and Chennai, the climate variations are significant, and monsoon predominate the area specially in cochin, which has its peak from June to August, on the West coast, and in the east part, the rain fall is from October to December, when the main monsoon come from the southwest coast, and Kerala is affect by the short and wet northeast monsoon. But the best time to visit this area is during November to April, when the climate is hot yet, with the exception of the Hill Station, which is cooler.

The east area of India especially Calcutta has its best time from October to March, with hot weather during the day and cooler at night in the inland, and rather humid in the coastal areas. Monsoon has its peak between June and August. The west area that comprise Mumbai and Goa, has its best time to visit from October to May, when the weather is more pleasant, and has its monsoon time from June to September.

In general for tourist the high season is from November to February, the low season between April to September, and from October to March is the shoulder season. Fewer people visit India during monsoon and summer season, but in the shoulder season apart of the India's attractions, you can see many festivals such as Durga Puja, Diwali, Christmas, Goa Carnival, the Desert Festival, the Bikaner Camel Festival, Pushkar Mela, Kartik Purnima Snan and Makar Sankranti.
