Pushkar History

The beginning of Pushkar is associated with many legends and also the Pushkar Fair, but some versions say that the city was founded in the 4th century, thus wrote the Chinese traveler Fa-Hiend and also in the scripts writing during the era of Muslims invasion.

The legends of Pushkar are associated with Lord Brahma, one of this legend say that Lord Brahma killed to the demon Vajra Nabh with a Lotus flower in a battle, the petals of the flower floated down to earth and landed in three places in and around Pushkar where lakes sprang up.

Another legend, which is came of the legendary time, relate the history of the Lord Brahma when he was flying over Rajasthan desert on his swan, in this moment some petals fell from his hand and drifted down. In the places where the flowers had touched the soft sands, miraculously sprang blue lakes. Then Lord Brahma called to the Entire Pantheon, more than 900,000 celestial beings, to perform a fire sacrifice or yagna. But his wife Savitri was not with him and the yanga would be incomplete without her, then Lord Brahma decide married with a local girl and sat down without his wife. When Savitri landed on the earth and upon finding this new bride sitting next to the Brahma, she was raged with fury and cursed him that he would never be worshipped anywhere else on earth.

According with the legend and Ramayan mentions, Pushkar is an ancient town, where many rulers and Maharajas built temples and ghats. Now, the holy dip in Pushkar Lake is thought to be salvation giving, and the place is very famous in his name. Pushkar is the sister of the Ajmer City, and is a beautiful sightseeing place for visitors.
