Kovalam is a beach town situated in the Southern Indian State of Thiruvananthapuram, along of 600 kilometers of length in the Kerala coast; there are many beautiful sandy beaches, rocky promontories and coconut palms. The beach is located to 16 kilometers outside Thiruvananthapuram, and near of the beach, about 3 kilometers away is the sea port of Vizhinjam, where you can find old Hindu temples, big churches and a mosque, and also is possible to see its special varieties of fish.

Kovalam beach is known as the “Paradise of the South”, because the beach has calm bay of blue waters, by its pleasant climatic beach resort, the warm and clean atmosphere by the coconut trees, the white sand bed and the sea breeze that gently plays with the waves. For these reason the beach of Kolavam is the perfect destination for the people that want passing vacations of dream, relaxing and rejuvenating.

Kovalam is comprised for three successive crescent shaped beaches; there also you can find Ayurvedic massage, yoga centers, water sports facilities and host of cultural programs. The most popular beach in the circuit is the Lighthouse or southern beach; from there you can view the Vizhinzam mosque. In the middle beach aptly named Hawah, is used by the local fisherfolk to go out every morning to the sea for their daily catch. The northern beach called Samundra or the sea is hardly affected by the weather.

Kovalam beach was a hippy idyll, around 70’s the beach was very popular among hippies, but the beach was known by the Europeans since 1930’s. In the hippie era the beach was the most prominent tourist spots, now the tiny beach is the focus of a multi-million dollar business. Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of Travancore. Over the past three decades, the place has been well developed, and now figures prominently on the world tourism map.

The best time to visit Kovalam is between September to March, though it is an all year destination.
