Jaisalmer City

Often the city is described as “The Golden City”, located in the desert region of Rajasthan, to 900 kilometers from Delhi, and 285 kilometers from Jodhpur; Jaisalmer is situated in the remote western border of the north Indian state of Rajasthan, surrounded by sand dunes, and is bordered in the west by Pakistan Country, and in the south is Bikaner, another beautiful Rajput heritage.

Jaisalmer is princely city, lies in the heart of the desert; its commanding fort located in the hill of Trikuta dominates the city. The city with its fort, palaces, temples and havelis was built in yellow sandstone; this magnificent city is an oasis in the dessert, splendid, magic and brilliant place for visitors and tourists.

The city was founded around 1156 by Rawal Jaisal a Bhatti Rajput ruler, who moved his capital to Jaisalmer from Luderma, a city located to 16 kilometers from Jaisalmer, because the old fort in this place was vulnerable towards possible enemy assault; a fascinating legends is associated with the history of the city, the legend say the Lord Krishna who is the head of the Tadav tribe, foretold that a remote descendant of the Yadav tribe would built his kingdom atop the Trikuta Hill. Maybe this prophecy was fulfilled when Rawal Jaisal founded the Jaisalmer City.

Jaisalmer City is a great destination for tourist because there is located many sightseeing monuments, festivals and safaris such as the Jaisalmer Fort, the Havelies of Jaisalmer, Jain Temples, Gadsisar Lake, Lodurva, Sam, Jain Temples, Laxaminath Temple, and others. Or you can enjoy of the excursions to Lodurva, Wood Fossil Park, Sam Sand Dunes, Desert National Park or Amar Sagar, and other safaris. And finally you can see the festivals of Jaisalmer as the Ramdevra Fair or the Desert Festival.

The climate in the desert citadel is extremely hot in the summer, and in the winter during the days the weather is very hot and the night is cold because the city is located in the desert, the best time to visit Jaisalmer is in monsoon season, this season is hot too but the average temperature stays above 45 ºC, it is between October to February, the rain fall is in the summer but it is scarce with dusty storms.
