Durga Puja

Durga Puja also known as Dussehra is the most important festival in India; celebrated specially in West Bengal, during five days (Shasthi, Saptami, Asthami, Nabami, and Vijaya Dashami), is extended for five days more, begins in the sixth day from Maha Shashti and ends in the tenth day with Bijoya Dashami. Durga Puja is celebrated between the months of September and October, according the lunar calendar.

Durga Puja is more than a festival; people in India celebrate the life, culture, popular customs and traditions in this time, and become in one of the biggest social event of India. Not only Hindu people celebrate this festival also people from all religious background participate in it, which has different rituals and festivities.

During festival, Indian people has time to reunions, and to rejuvenate to love, to share, and to care. The beautiful idols of the ten headed but fierce goddess on her lion is worshiped with great enthusiasm. On the final day the idols are taken in elaborate procession to be immersed in the river or the pond.
